The first St. Lawrence team to win a NCAA tournament game, the 1955-56 team went 18-5-0 for the season and finished third in the tournament with a 6-2 win over Boston College. SLU lost a tight 2-1 battle with Michigan in the semifinals. Goaltender Sarge Whittier was named second-team All Tournament, joining Joe McLean and defense-man Bill Renner. Forward Ed Zifcak and defense-men Bill Lundberg were All Americans on the 1955-56 team.
