Just the second undefeated and untied team in St. Lawrence football history, the 1982 team won the Lambert Bowl, was ECAC Team of the Year and advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament semifinals in a record-setting year.

The 1982 team went 9-0-0 in its regular season, winning the ICAC Championship and averaging over 30 points per game. It staged a thrilling comeback in an NCAA quarterfinal game against Wagner to set the record for wins in a season at 10. The Saints trailed Wagner 34-13 in the second half, but scored 30 points in 14 minutes to win 43-34 and advance to the NCAA semifinals before its season was ended in a highly competitive loss to Augustana College.

Coached by Andy Tally, the 1982 District I Coach of the Year, the team set records for points in a season with 341, total offense with 4698 yards and rushing attempts with 568. Quarterback Mark Ferrante set records for passing yards with 2042, completions with 156 and total offense with 2358 yards, fullback Keith Henry set records for yards rushing in a game with 229 against RPI and in a season with 1342 and halfback Lelan Rodgers set the record for touchdowns in a season with 12.

The team included six All America players, guard Jim Smith, tackle Ed Szott, Henry, linebacker Steve Kuno, Ferrante and tight end Craig Gleason and dominated the league and ECAC post-season all star teams.
